500 Democrats call on Biden to punish Israel

More than 500 members of the US presidential campaign and Democratic Party officials wrote a letter to Biden urging him to hold Israel accountable for its recent aggression against the Gaza Strip.

The Washington Post wrote that more than 500 Biden campaigners and Democratic staffers signed the letter calling on US President Joe Biden to protect Palestinian rights and hold Israel accountable for the disproportionate number of Israeli casualties compared to Palestinian martyrs in the recent Gaza war.

The letter, issued Monday, was signed by staff and organizers working at Biden’s campaign headquarters, the Democratic National Committee, and in 22 states, including Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Michigan, Arizona and other states.

“The president needs to do better,” Hebeh Mohammed, a Palestinian-American employee, told the Washington Post.

He added: The ceasefire in Gaza was welcomed, but the suffering of the Palestinians continues; Because the Israeli siege of Gaza, the annexation of lands in the occupied West Bank, widespread arrests and attacks, and ethnic cleansing have not ended.

The signatories of the letter praised Biden’s recent efforts to reach a ceasefire and called on the US government to end the expansion of settlements in the West Bank.

The US government has also been called upon to join its international allies in putting pressure on the regime to end Israeli violations of international law and to uphold the right of the Palestinians to self-determination.
