The United Nations condemned the assassination attempt on the former prime minister of Pakistan

Pak Sahafat – United Nations Spokesman Stephane Dujarric condemned the attempt on the life of Imran Khan, leader of Tehreek-e-Insaf Party and former Prime Minister of Pakistan.

One person was killed and nine others were injured after an attacker shot on Thursday at the gathering place of hundreds of supporters of Tehreek-e-Insaf leader and deposed Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Stephen Dujarric, the spokesperson of the United Nations, told reporters that we are very concerned about the injuries of Imran Khan and several other political figures and strongly condemn any violence against politicians.

Expressing hope for the recovery of Imran Khan and the other wounded, the UN spokesperson emphasized that it is very important to carry out a transparent investigation into what happened today.

This senior UN official also expressed hope that this incident will not create a new challenge for Pakistan’s political situation.

According to Pak Sahafat News Agency’s report from Pakistani media on Thursday, the leaders of Tehreek-e-Insaf announced that Imran Khan survived an assassination attempt. The security forces present at the place arrested an attacker.

As a result of today’s shooting in Wazirabad area, several activists of Tehreek-e-Insaf Party and political figures of this party were also injured, and this incident has so far resulted in one loss of life.

It is said that Imran Khan, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan, was also injured after the shooting, but his condition is stable and he was taken to a safe place for treatment.

Yasmin Rashid, one of the leaders of Tehreek-e-Insaf Party, says that Imran Khan was injured in his right leg and his condition is good.

This incident occurs at the same time as the seventh day of anti-government protests in Pakistan, which is moving towards Islamabad under the leadership of Imran Khan.

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif strongly condemned the incident of shooting at Imran Khan’s demonstration and asked the security and law enforcement authorities to conduct an immediate investigation into the perpetrators of this attack.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Imran Khan demands early elections from the government in this country and threatened that if the demands of the opposition are not accepted, the anti-government demonstrations will turn into a long-term sit-in upon entering Islamabad.

The leaders of the coalition government of Pakistan have proposed negotiations to the opposition faction led by Imran Khan and at the same time warned that the government will never allow chaos in the country and the siege of the capital under the pretext of demonstrations and political activities.
