Pakistan: We call on the Taliban not to use Afghan territory against us

The Pakistani army chief of staff called on the Taliban to comply with its international obligations and not to use Afghan territory against the country.

During a visit to the Pakistani Military Academy, General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Chief of Staff of the Pakistan Army, said that Islamabad calls for peace and development in the region and will continue to play its role for peace and stability in Afghanistan.

Bajwa added: We expect the Taliban to live up to the promises made to the international community on women and human rights and not to use Afghan soil against any other country.

According to the Express Tribune, the Chief of Staff of the Pakistan Army emphasized that the country has always been sincere in its efforts to bring peace to Afghanistan and called on the international community to play a role in finding a peaceful solution in Afghanistan.

Younis Qanuni, a senior member of the Jamiat-e-Islami Party of Afghanistan who is based in Pakistan, has previously stated that Pakistani officials have made it clear that they do not support a one-ethnic government in Afghanistan that has failed.

Qanuni, who led a delegation of Afghan politicians to a three-day trip to Islamabad after the fall of Kabul, said of the results of the trip that the delegation met with the Chief of Staff, the Prime Minister, the Foreign Minister and the Chief of the Pakistan Army Intelligence Agency, all of whom emphasized their support for an inclusive system acceptable to the Afghan people.

He had said that with the fall of Ashraf Ghani’s government, a monopoly group that had taken the people and the peace process hostage was ousted, thus creating a new opportunity for peace.
