Ghani made the remarks at an international conference entitled “Central and South Asia; “Connecting the region, opportunities and challenges” in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan.

He added that despite repeated assurances from Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan and his army generals, pro-Taliban networks and organizations in Pakistan are publicly celebrating the destruction of the assets and capabilities of the Afghan people and government.

According to the Afghan president, Pakistani officials have said in the past that they do not see the Taliban’s dominance in Afghanistan to their advantage and are using their influence to bring the group to the negotiating table.

He criticized Pakistan for its support of the Taliban, saying that according to reports, about 10,000 Taliban members had recently entered Afghanistan from Pakistan and other parts of the country.

Ghani added that the Taliban have not severed ties with other terrorist groups and are seeking an economic siege of the cities by increasing attacks, contrary to statements by their political bureau.

However, he said that as long as this situation continues, they are ready to confront the Taliban and their supporters so that the Taliban realize that the only solution is a political agreement.

Reacting to remarks made by President Ghani, Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan said at the conference that blaming Pakistan for the Afghan war while Islamabad had facilitated the Afghan peace process and inter-Afghan talks was not fair.

Khan has said his country supports a political solution to the Afghan problem.
