Will the US rise to fish in Lebanon’s muddy waters / October 2019 scenario repeated?

At a time when Lebanese are suffering from a number of crises, and some are talking about a repeat of the events of October 2019, there are warnings about some US-led movements aimed at a political coup in Lebanon.

Lebanon’s news site wrote in an article about the recent situation in the country, the scene of roadblocks and burning of tires over the past week in protest of the deteriorating economic situation and livelihood crisis in the country, which has exceeded the capacity of citizens, has returned to the streets of Lebanon and is reminiscent of the October 2019 protests in this country.

Rising prices and public protests

The increase in power outages and its severe quotas and the lack of fuel and the increase in its prices are among the most important reasons that have forced people to take to the streets spontaneously. This is happening at the same time as the Lebanese political stalemate, from which there seems to be no way out; it has been almost a year since the resignation of Hassan Diab’s government and more than 8 months since Saad Hariri’s mission to form a government.

Experts, meanwhile, are questioning whether what happened on the streets of Lebanon last week could be a prelude to the resumption of mass protests similar to October 2019, and whether the protests will be different this time amid Lebanon’s growing crisis.

Fuel crisis

The series of humiliation of Lebanese in the ranks of the gas station, which has reached its peak in the last two days, has provoked the anger of Lebanese citizens and the power outage in the building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as one of the most important buildings in the capital that handles the affairs of citizens and immigrants is showing that the Lebanese are very worried about the electricity crisis in this country. In addition, finding a simple and common remedy for some chronic diseases has become a complex issue that may not end well.

Of course, all that has been said is one side of the story, and the crisis of price increases is the other. The salaries of government employees in various institutions have not increased in the New Year and their income does not cover their daily livelihood.

Hariri on foreign trips and people in crisis

Naturally, in such circumstances, the politicians and officials of each country prioritize addressing the concerns of the people and do everything in their power to prevent the collapse of the country. But in Lebanon, the Lebanese people see that the political class is indifferent to all their problems.

For almost a year now, Lebanese officials have been talking about forming a government that will save them, but in practice each politician seems to be pursuing personal interests and privileges; as in the past, the political structure of Lebanon has been the same.

While the Lebanese are plunged into numerous and complex crises, Lebanese officials have kept the country without a government for more than 10 months for fictitious reasons. Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri was ousted this week; That is, he did what he did in the last eight months, arguing that others were blocking his mission.

An old US-French plan for a political coup in Lebanon

In this situation, some Lebanese talk about the emergence of popular movements and uprisings to change the political structure, and others believe that a fundamental change in the current situation in Lebanon is not possible and today resolving the livelihood and economic crisis is a priority and the Lebanese political scene has no capacity for change and revolution.

Others believe that the experience of the protests in Lebanon will not be successful given the protests of October 17, 2019, which made the situation in Lebanon worse than before.

In any case, there is no possibility of events like October 2019 in Lebanon being spontaneously by the Lebanese people, and this scenario is rejected.

But the Lebanese newspaper Al-Banna reported on some foreign moves by the United States and France to destabilize Lebanon, at the moment, it is not possible to manage any popular demonstrations in the shadow of political divisions in Lebanon, and the Lebanese are well aware that the experience of protests in this country for reforms has been a failure.

Such demonstrations also lead to temporary chaos in Lebanon, which is being repeated every day without any specific results, and it seems that the Lebanese authorities are not afraid of these protests either.
