Why is Sanaa focused on targeting Aramco?

A Yemeni website noted that Sanaa had recently focused on targeting Aramco oil facilities deep in Saudi territory, and that it was no longer enough to just target Saudi military installations.

For the second time in less than a week, Sanaa forces targeted oil giant Aramco deep in Saudi territory. But really, what is the purpose of Sanaa from this action and focusing on targeting the facilities of this oil company?

Al-Khobar Al-Yemeni news website addressed this issue in a note and wrote: “In the latest offensive by Sanaa forces deep in Saudi territory, Brigadier General Yahya Sari, spokesman for the Yemeni Armed Forces, announced that Aramco facilities in Jazan had been targeted with seven ballistic missiles out of a total of 11 UAVs and ballistic missiles used in the operation. . »

The following is the note: Aramco, the backbone of Saudi Arabia’s economy, has several strategic facilities in Jazan, the most important of which is the Jazan refinery, which produces about 400,000 barrels a day of its heavily priced heavy Arab crude oil. The refinery, which was completed in 2018, was another aspect of Aramco after the company’s facilities in the Al-Jubail industrial zone.

The images obtained so far from Jazan show the fire, the terrible fire and the high financial damage to the facility, which will probably lead to a short-term shutdown of the refinery. The Sanaa forces used a new Sa’ir missile system alongside the drones to deactivate the Patriot defense system. This indicates that there is a lot of damage, both in Aramco facilities and in the defense system, which is not able to intercept and destroy Yemeni missiles and drones.

According to the report, the attack on Aramco in the recent operation is a continuation of the attacks in Sanaa a few days ago, during which 17 UAVs and ballistic missiles targeted the depths of Saudi territory. The operation, dubbed “Siam Sha’ban”, was aimed at targeting Aramco facilities in al-Jubail and Jeddah, according to a spokesman for the Yemeni Armed Forces.

For Saudi Arabia, Aramco is the largest source of national income and the backbone of the country’s economy. According to Russian experts, targeting the company’s facilities means limiting Riyadh’s capabilities to supply its operations in Riyadh and buying international positions in order not to put pressure on the Saudis to immediately withdraw from the Yemeni war.

Targeting Aramco amid existing signs that Sanaa forces are entering Ma’rib is putting the Saudis to a difficult test: if Riyadh bombs oil fields and Ma’rib facilities, Sanaa will use all its capabilities against Aramco.

“Regardless of Sanaa’s intentions to focus on attacking the Aramco facility, the available data show that the company, as a vital artery for the Saudis, is on track to be targeted by Sanaa forces in the next phase, and more importantly,” the memo concluded that if the Saudi coalition’s military attacks on Yemen continue and intensify and negotiations are delayed, the facility will be targeted by new Yemeni missiles, the future of which will be jeopardized.
