How did the Americans disable Yemeni air defense systems during the time of Ali Abdullah Saleh?

Al-Masira aired a documentary mentioning the role of the United States in destroying and disabling Yemen’s air defense systems, as well as Washington’s control over all of Yemen’s military secrets.

The documentary reveals the role of the US embassy spy in Yemen before the September 21 revolution, and that the US State Department has sent a special envoy, Lancoln Bloomfield, to eliminate the threat of the air defense system.

This documentary shows a US State Department document dated September 25, 2004, instructing former President Ali Abdullah Saleh to sign an immediate agreement to destroy air defense systems.

The US State Department document states the destruction of 1,435 air defense systems in compensation of $ 7.17 million.

This documentary revealed a confidential document about the National Security Agency on 16/8/2005 in the presence of Ammar Saleh, the US Ambassador, Thomas Jacques, and the CIA Director in Yemen.

According to the document, the NSA has also more than once suggested developing a plan to assemble and dismantle air defense systems to include other weapons.

On March 8, 2008, the US Embassy advised the NSA to neutralize surface-to-air missiles between March 16 and 19, prior to Bloomfield’s scheduled visit to Sanaa, as indicated in the embassy document.

A document issued by the National Security Agency on April 20, 2014, revealed details of the destruction of a consignment of Sterla missiles at the Al-Sabaha Special Forces barracks.

Al-Masira quoted Brigadier General Mohammed al-Maqdad, head of the Yemeni Ministry of Defense’s Military Operations Organization, as saying: When they laid down their weapons, they rumored that the aim was not to fall into the hands of terrorists, especially al-Qaeda.

Al-Muqaddad stressed that the Yemeni armed forces had short-range, medium-range and long-range missiles that were destroyed by the Americans as a result of handing over the country’s decision to the former US ambassador.

On the other hand, Colonel “Saleh Qanbour”, a former commander of the Yemeni army, said: We were shocked by the US Embassy’s access to a significant portion of the country’s military secrets. The destruction of the missiles of the Yemeni air defense system proves that the plan to target Yemen is old and not relevant to the present.

On the other hand, a source affiliated with the former Yemeni National Security Organization told Al-Masira: The US fear was primarily due to the fear of destruction of American drones operating and spying in Yemen.

The source referred to the actions of American experts and advisers in deactivating missile platforms off the coast of Yemen and in sensitive areas and areas such as oil facilities.
