“The Iran-China Strategic Document was a testament to the failure of the policy of maximum pressure on Iran,” said a newspaper published in Occupied Palestine.
In a note written by Alon Pinkas on Tuesday evening, the Haaretz newspaper reviewed the signing of a strategic document between Iran and China and wrote that the agreement was another sign of the “boring failure” of the strategy of US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
At the beginning of this note, while pointing to the importance and geopolitical potential of the Iran-China governance document, it is stated: “Comprehensive strategic cooperation between China and Iran is evidence of the failure of the US-Israeli foreign policy approach.”
Haaretz wrote that Netanyahu was one of those who strongly welcomed and supported Trump’s policy of maximum pressure on Iran: “But Iran now has 12 times more enriched uranium than it had in the nuclear deal and has signed a comprehensive leadership agreement with China. It has a proxy presence in the southern Golan Heights and near the Israeli border.”
The author of the memo described the consequences of Trump and Netanyahu’s policy of maximum pressure as “minimal embarrassment” and added: “In addition, the United States is now laying the groundwork for a return to the nuclear deal.”
Expressing concern over the Iran-China strategic document, the Zionist newspaper analyzed: “In a sense, the $ 400 billion $ 25 billion agreement between China and Iran, which includes clauses in the energy and military fields, should never be taken lightly or ignored by the United States and Israel; Even if it is not implemented for another two years. This agreement shows that Iran is far from collapsing as a result of tough US sanctions following Trump’s unilateral withdrawal from the nuclear deal.”
The note states: “It was also a message to the United States, Europe and Israel that Iran has a strong ally that thwarts any plans by Netanyahu and Trump to isolate Iran. China and Iran both have a personal interest in weakening the United States. … Iran is one of 140 countries that have signed a bilateral memorandum of understanding on the China Belt and Road.”
The document of the comprehensive cooperation plan of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the People’s Republic of China, known as the 25-year plan, was signed on Saturday in Tehran by Mohammad Javad Zarif and “Wang Yi”, the foreign ministers of the two countries. This document discusses the capacities and prospects of bilateral cooperation between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the People’s Republic of China in various fields, including economic, cultural, etc.
Prior to Bloomberg, The Wall Street Journal reported that Beijing had been an important trading partner for Iran in recent years, noting that the signing of a strategic document between Iran and China had played a role in thwarting US plans to isolate Tehran.
