Goals behind the scenes of the Aqaba meeting in Jordan

Iraqi sources referred to the goals behind the meeting, which was held in Aqaba, Jordan, in the presence of the Iraqi Prime Minister, the King of Jordan, the President of Egypt and the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi.

According to the Pak Sahafat news agency international group, quoting Al-Malumeh, Arif al-Hamami, a representative of the Shiite Coordination Framework Board, on Sunday criticized the quadripartite meeting in the Jordanian city of Aqaba with the participation of Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi as “suspicious.”

He added: The recent meeting between the Iraqi Prime Minister and the King of Jordan, the President of Egypt and Mohammed bin Zayed, as well as the Saudi representative, discussed other issues, contrary to what has been reported in the media.

Al-Hamami emphasized: The real and fundamental goal of this quadripartite meeting is to take steps towards normalization with the Zionist regime, and this is an issue that Iraqi political groups strongly oppose, because any cooperation with the Zionist regime is a crime under the Iraqi constitution.

He added: This meeting brings a lot of economic losses to Iraq, because it allows Jordan and Egypt to receive Iraqi oil at a low price, and it deprives the Iraqi people of the use of their divine wealth.

Al-Hamami emphasized: It also causes the influx of Egyptian workers into Iraq and increases the unemployment of the Iraqi youth.

On the other hand, “Uday Abdul Hadi”, one of the leaders of the Fatah coalition, emphasized: The quadripartite meeting of Iraq, Egypt, Jordan and the UAE is not in the interest of Iraqi security and economy.

He added: We welcome the establishment of strong relations with Arab, Islamic and regional countries based on the principle of common interests.

He said relations should be based on fixed principles, not dubious goals. Relations should not be to the detriment of the security and economy of Iraq.

Abdul Hadi clarified: The framework meeting between the UAE, Iraq, Jordan and Egypt has no security or economic benefits for Iraq. The Iraqi government must develop a roadmap that guarantees the interests of Baghdad.

He added: Jordan benefits the most from the purchase of very cheap oil from Iraq, and Egypt, which suffers from a turbulent economic situation, and the UAE, which’s position on Baghdad, is clear.

Abdul Hadi said: Such meetings have no security or economic benefits under any circumstances.

Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, attended a joint meeting with Jordanian King Abdullah II, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, and Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi.

Prince Turki bin Mohammed bin Fahd bin Abdulaziz, a government minister and member of Saudi Arabia’s Council of Ministers, also attended the meeting and spoke about ways to strengthen relations with the respective countries with officials present at the meeting.

It was said that the meeting focused on strengthening joint cooperation in various fields, especially in reducing the effects of the economic crisis in the two areas of food security and energy.

In this quadripartite meeting, high-level coordination, expansion of economic cooperation and increase of trade exchanges with the aim of development and prosperity of these countries were discussed.

Senior officials from Iraq, Jordan, Egypt and the UAE also discussed regional and global crises, as well as stepping up efforts to resolve them in order to ensure security and stability in the region.

On the other hand, Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi met separately with King Abdullah II of Jordan to discuss bilateral relations and ways to strengthen cooperation in various fields.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed the global economic crisis and ways to deal with its consequences, as well as the challenges in the field of food security.
