What is the prime minister of Iraq looking for in his trip to Washington?

Pak Sahafat – A representative of the Iraqi parliament revealed the most important points of the upcoming visit of the prime minister of this country to Washington.

According to the International group of Pak Sahafat news agency, “Mohammed Al-Baldawi”, a representative of the Fatah parliamentary faction, today (Wednesday, January 4), referring to the imminent visit of Iraqi Prime Minister “Mohammed Shia al-Sudani” to America, revealed the most important points of his consultations in Washington.

In an interview with “Al-Maluma” website, he stated: During the visit of Mohammad Shia al-Sudani to Washington, the exact time of which has not yet been determined, several important cases will be discussed, the most important of which are the removal of restrictions against Iraqi business interactions, the regulation of political relations with Washington, and the presence of the US military to implement the previous resolution of the Iraqi Parliament.

Al-Baladavi added: “A request for Iraq not to interfere in regional conflicts because it is not a party to these conflicts, as well as the cancellation of restrictions on Iraqi assets in the United States of America, will be among other cases examined during this trip.”

This Iraqi representative stated: “Al-Sudani may also raise the issue of canceling sanctions against the figures present in the political process during this trip.”

Mohammad Shia al-Sudani is scheduled to travel to the United States in the coming days, and this is his first trip to Washington since assuming the post of Iraqi Prime Minister.

In 2008, Iraq signed two agreements with America, the first agreement was called “Sofa” and the second agreement was called “Strategic Framework”. The first agreement ended with the withdrawal of American forces in 2011; But the second agreement, which is a very broad agreement, is not only limited to security issues, but also includes an important range of political, diplomatic, cultural, educational, environmental, etc. issues, and no specific time limit has been set for it.

In 2008, America signed a strategic framework agreement with Baghdad with the aim of what was called joint defense and strengthening the security and stability of Iraq. According to this agreement, the two sides are required to cooperate with each other in security and defense fields.

According to the clauses of this agreement, “the two sides will continue their actions to develop strong cooperation in the field of defense and security arrangements.”
