UN: The victims of the Yemeni civil war have reached 377 thousand people

According to a UN estimate, the seven-year Yemeni civil war by the end of this year left about 377,000 people directly and indirectly victims. Children have been the biggest victims of this war.

According to Pak Sahafat news agency, quoting Deutsche Welle, according to a United Nations Development Program report, the deaths of about 60 percent of the people who died during Yemen’s seven-year civil war were due to the side effects of the war, including lack of clean water, hunger and disease. More than 150,000 people have been killed directly in civil war.

According to the report, most of the people who died as a result of the side effects of the war were “children who were exposed to hunger and malnutrition.”

“Every 20 minutes, a child under the age of five dies from the side effects of war,” according to a report by the United Nations Development Program.

Saudi-led military coalition forces entered war with the Houthis in early 2015 to defend the ousted Yemeni government; just months after the Houthis captured the capital.

The report adds that the civil war has had “catastrophic effects on Yemen’s development process.”

The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) has warned in the past that the war in Yemen, one of the poorest countries in the region, has delayed its growth and development for more than two decades.

It warns of continuing military conflict in the country, saying that if the situation continues like this, the number of victims will reach about 1.3 million by 2030.

The report adds that if Yemen’s civil war ends today, it can be hoped that the country will have a moderate income by 2050. But the current situation indicates an escalation of the conflict.

Thousands of people have been killed in clashes on several fronts in recent weeks, especially near the strategic city of Ma’rib, according to AFP.

According to the UN High Commissioner for Refugees in Geneva, 40,000 people have been displaced since September this year as they fled their homes in the oil-rich city of Marib.
