The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) says the escalation of clashes in Yemen this month has killed eight children and injured 33 others.
UNICEF Representative in Yemen Philip Dumil said eight children were killed and 33 others were wounded in clashes between forces of the ousted Yemeni government led by Abd al-Mansour Hadi and Yemeni army forces in various areas, including Taiz and al-Hudaidah.
“We strongly condemn these attacks, noting that many children and families are paying a heavy price for these conflicts,” Dumil said.
A school and a hospital in Taiz were also targeted in the attacks, the UN official said, according to Russia Today.
Dumil added that several children were injured in other provinces, including Ma’rib in central Yemen.
Saudi Arabia, at the head of an Arab coalition backed by the United States, has launched a military aggression against Yemen and imposed a land, air and sea siege on April 26, 2015, claiming that it was trying to bring the resigned Yemeni president back to power. The military aggression did not achieve any of the goals of the Saudi coalition and was only accompanied by the killing and wounding of tens of thousands of Yemenis, the displacement of millions, the destruction of the country’s infrastructure and the spread of famine and infectious diseases.
