The Guardian: The number of executions has doubled under Bin Salman

Pak Sahafat – The Guardian newspaper wrote in a report that the number of executions has almost doubled during the reign of Mohammed bin Salman, the de facto leader of Saudi Arabia. This is while the last 6 years are considered one of the bloodiest years in the modern history of this country.

According to Pak Sahafat News Agency’s report from this English newspaper, the death penalty in Saudi Arabia, “despite the efforts to make this country look modern, has reached the highest level.” Opponents of the Crown Prince will be completely suppressed and no protest will be tolerated.”

The Guardian added: New data shows that Mohammed bin Salman’s claims to prevent executions have not been implemented, and more executions have taken place in the past 6 years than ever before.

According to this report, between 2015 and 2022, an average of 129 executions has been carried out each year. This figure shows an increase of 82 percent compared to the period of 2010-14. Last year, 147 people were executed, of which 90 were non-violent. Also, on March 12 of last year, more than 81 people were executed, which is an unprecedented number and, according to human rights activists, sends a harsh message from Saudi leaders to the opposition.

According to the report of two European organizations, the Saudi Human Rights Organization and Riprio, The use of the death penalty by Saudi Arabia is full of discrimination and injustice, and the Saudi regime has lied to the international community about its use. Despite the Crown’s promises that the death penalty would only be used for murder, the death penalty has typically been used for non-lethal crimes and to silence dissent and protestors.

According to the Guardian, Saudi Arabia is known as one of the leading countries in the region for the death penalty. “In the last 6 years, the number of executions of children, women, foreign nationals and mass executions has been on the rise.”

The Guardian quoted a member of the Saudi royal family living in exile in Europe as saying: “It is literally a sword over the heads of all those who disobeyed him.” He described bin Salman as Muammar Gaddafi and Saddam Hussein.
