Shabak chief calls on Abbas to cancel Palestinian elections if Hamas participate

The head of the Zionist regime’s internal security organization Shabak has asked the Palestinian Authority to cancel the holding if Hamas is present in the Palestinian elections.

Zionist officials continue to worry about the presence of the Hamas Islamic Resistance Movement and its victory in the Palestinian elections.

Kun News reported Friday evening that Nadaf Argman, head of the Zionist regime’s Internal Security Organization (Shabak), had asked Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas to cancel the Palestinian elections if Hamas is present.

According to the Times of Israel website, quoting the report, Argman made the request to Abu Mazen during a visit to Ramallah two weeks ago.

The network also quoted a Palestinian source as saying that the Palestinian Authority had opposed Shabak‘s request.

Elections to the Palestinian Legislative Council are scheduled to take place on May 22 after a 15-year hiatus, with the participation of various Palestinian groups.

Earlier, the Arab 48 website reported that Israeli security organizations feared that with the victory of Hamas in the elections as in 2006, the group would dominate the West Bank in addition to the Gaza Strip.

Amos Harel, a military analyst at Haaretz, wrote: “Mahmoud Abbas has so far ignored Israeli warnings about the possibility of Hamas winning and the group dominating large areas of the West Bank.”
