Saudi Arabia has detained 160 Palestinians

Saudi Arabia is detaining 160 Palestinians in a prison in the southwest, Saudi Arabia said on its Twitter page.

Saudi Arabia‘s Twitter page “Mutaqili al-Rai” (prisoners of conscience) announced that the number of Palestinians detained in Saudi prisons has reached 160.

The account of “Motaqli Al-Rai” announced on Twitter: The number of Palestinians imprisoned in Saudi Arabia on charges of links to the Hamas movement reaches 160, all of whom are being held in the Abuha prison in southwestern Saudi Arabia.

Since February 2019, Saudi authorities have arrested a large number of Jordanians and Palestinians living in the country, including Mohammed al-Khadiri, the representative of the Hamas movement in Saudi Arabia. In addition to February, when most Palestinians living in Saudi Arabia were arrested, a number of other Palestinians were arrested in July and August this year.

Hamas has repeatedly called on Saudi officials to release Palestinian prisoners, particularly al-Khadiri, who is more than 80 years old and suffering from various diseases, but Riyadh has so far not responded positively to any of these demands.

Amnesty International last February expressed concern about al-Khadri’s deteriorating condition due to a lack of medical treatment in a Saudi prison.

Hamas had previously announced that Saudi Arabia had detained about 60 members and supporters of the movement, including al-Khadri and his son, since April 2019.
