Human rights organization warns of Salman al-Awda’s fate

A human rights organization has warned of the fate of Sheikh al-Hawali and Salman al-Awda in Al-Saud prisons.

According to Al-Waqi Al-Saudi, the human rights organization “Sind” warned of the danger that threatens “Sheikh Safar Al-Hawali” and “Salman Al-Awda”, two Saudi missionaries in Al-Saudi prisons, due to the systematic violations of Saudi officials against freedom of expression prisoners.

The organization further expressed concern about the fate of Sheikh al-Hawali due to his deteriorating physical condition, medical negligence, and lack of health services inside the prison.

Sheikh al-Hawali’s physical condition in Al-Saud prison has deteriorated over the past two years because he is old and suffering from chronic diseases, while the prison conditions in Saudi Arabia are very bad for a healthy person.

Sheikh Safar al-Hawali was arrested in 2018 for asking questions and making critical remarks against the Al-Saud regime. Many of Sheikh Havali’s supporters posted a PDF version of his book, “Muslims and Western Civilization,” on social media; The book, which has more than 3,000 pages and was written in April 2018, criticizes Al-Saud in this book, as if Sheikh Hawali, as his supporters say, wanted to end his life by jihad and speaking the truth against the oppressive ruler.

Salman al-Awda faces an unknown fate in the Al-Saud prison amid the policies of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who is trying to hide the prominent role of religious preachers whose views are not in line with his policies. The media’s concealment of the Saudi’s fate and status, as well as his deteriorating physical condition in prison and lack of health services has caused concern among many human rights organizations.

The most prominent sufferings of Salman al-Awda in Al-Saud prison are the lack of health services, the ill-treatment of the prison guards, the insult to his scientific status, as well as the solitary confinement that led to the psychological torture of this Saudi preacher.

Saudi officials continue to hold secret trials against him, away from the media and information from his family, which shows the lack of transparency in the policy of the Saudi authorities and judiciary.

Abdullah al-Awda, son of Salman al-Awda, tweeted that his father had lost almost half of his hearing and sight, and that Saudi officials were still trying to harass him.

Al-Awda was arrested following a wave of political arrests on September 10, 2017, following a tweet. The fate of al-Awda is still unknown, given the lack of transparency in the policies of Muhammad ibn Salman, who seeks to silence dissent.
