Human rights activists: The world should listen to the cry of political prisoners in Bahrain

Pak Sahafat – A number of political and legal activists in Bahrain demanded an investigation by human rights institutions about the dire state of the country’s prisons and the actions of the ruling regime in torturing political prisoners and asked the international community to listen to the voices of these people.

According to Pak Sahafat News Agency’s report, citing “Marah Bahrain” news site, “Bahrain Human Rights Assembly” held a virtual meeting on Instagram with the title “Prisoners of conscience; Prisons and Relentless Suppression in Bahrain” was held in which a number of relatives of prisoners of conscience and political and legal activists of this country participated.

A Bahraini human rights activist and the father of “Ali Mehna”, one of the prisoners of conscience, said in this meeting: What the political and ideological prisoners in this country revealed about their suffering through audio files is only a small part of the intolerable and dangerous mistreatment.

He stating that since 2011, the parliamentarians of Bahrain have neglected their duty towards the detainees and their deprived rights, said: In this regard, I tried to communicate with several of these representatives, but they apologized, because they are afraid that filing this complaint will only cause the complicity and shameful silence of other government agencies.

Bagher Darvish, the chairman of this meeting, also evaluated the group strike of prisoners and their human rights discourse positively and demanded to increase these measures to put pressure on the administration of the Central Prison “Jo”.

Another participant in the meeting, Ahmad al-Mutaghwi, stated that the human rights monitoring institutions ignore what is happening in Bahrain’s prisons, and demanded to support the prisoners of conscience in this country through means of pressure.

“Mohammed Sultan”, one of the officials of “Salam” Democracy and Human Rights Organization of Bahrain, also said that as long as there are prisoners of conscience in this country, the sustainable development that the Bahraini government claims will not be realized.

He added: The government of Bahrain cannot break the will of the people through arbitrary arrests because the resistance of Bahrainis to realize their rights and demands is increasing day by day.

Jamiat al-Wefaq Bahrain also criticized the international community’s indifference to the conditions of Bahraini political prisoners, and especially Western countries that have double standards in the field of human rights.

Since February 14, 2011, Bahrain has seen a popular uprising against the Al-Khalifa regime. Bahraini people want freedom, establishment of justice and elimination of discrimination and the establishment of an elected military in their country.

During the popular uprising in Bahrain, thousands of people have been martyred or injured, and the Al-Khalifa government has also detained and tortured thousands of Bahrainis and deprived hundreds of others of their citizenship.

Human rights groups have repeatedly condemned the Al-Khalifa regime for suppressing the opposition and demanded reforms in the country’s political system.
