Contradictory behavior of Saudi officials in the appointment and dismissal of government officials on corruption charges

A human rights organization has revealed in a report the contradictions surrounding the campaign to detain officials of Saudi state institutions under the pretext of fighting corruption.

According to the International Group of Pak Sahaft News Agency, quoted by Saudi Leaks, anti-corruption campaigns in Saudi Arabia have shown sharp contradictions, as they are carried out by sudden monarchy orders and unilateral decisions that are unconstitutional.

Yahya Asiri, director general of the Al-Tajma ‘al-Watani party, stressed that the fight against corruption is through government institutions, an independent judiciary, and the pursuit of the people and the media, and in an atmosphere of freedom.

He added: The fight against corruption is not a royal decree and a unilateral decision that is announced vaguely and separately from the people and the law, and it is not done by those who are themselves one of the symbols of corruption in the world.

Yahya Asiri emphasized: Those accused of expulsion and corruption are those appointed under the so-called royal trust; Are you saying that this trust is misplaced? So why aren’t people appointed and removed accused of corruption by the people? Why does the Al-Saud regime want the Saudi people to live in this land without a decision about their fate, while the mercenaries want the appointment and dismissal of the officials without any understanding or explanation?

In this regard, “King Salman bin Abdulaziz” of Saudi Arabia on Wednesday, in the context of anti-corruption allegations, removed “Khalid al-Harbi” from the post of Saudi Public Security.

The King of Saudi Arabia ousted Khalid al-Harbi on charges of what he called corruption and handed over his case to the Saudi Anti-Corruption Agency for judicial investigation into his financial misconduct.

The Saudi Anti-Corruption Agency also announced on Wednesday the arrest of 282 Saudi nationals, including officials and staff of 10 ministries, on charges of bribery, abuse and fraud.

The organization tweeted that it began its instructions and duties by investigating 748 defendants in administrative and criminal cases, and detained detainees from staff in the Ministries of Defense, Health, Justice, Urban and Rural Affairs, Housing, Environment, Water and Agriculture. , Education, human resources and social development, Hajj and Umrah, transportation and logistics.

Saudi officials have stepped up their surveillance campaigns in recent months, filing hundreds of cases in the judiciary in which hundreds of people, including princes, officers and government officials, have been sentenced to prison and fined.

Saudi officials have arrested a number of dissidents on several occasions in recent years under the pretext of fighting corruption.

In 2017, Salman bin Abdulaziz ordered the formation of an anti-corruption organization headed by his son, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, following which dozens of current and former Saudi princes and officials were arrested.

The arrest and detention of Saudi officials on charges of corruption comes at a time when Saudi officials have not released details of the charges against them; In fact, there is no transparency needed to handle such cases in the process of arresting the relevant defendants in Saudi Arabia.

Defending the wave of arrests of current and former Saudi officials and what he called the fight against corruption, Mohammed bin Salman claimed that he was trying to reform his country’s economy.

Human rights groups have called for the Saudi regime, led by Salman bin Abdulaziz, and his son to detain those described as economic corrupters, to remove bin Salman’s opponents to replace his father, and for what the Saudi media has described as an anti-corruption case.
