Barham Saleh warns of endangering public security in Iraq

Following the protests against the results of the Iraqi elections; the president warned of endangering public security in Iraq.

According to Pak Sahafat news agency, quoted by Shafaq News, speaking in response to the protests against the results of the parliamentary elections in Iraq, Iraqi President Barham Saleh said: Demonstration of election results is a constitutionally guaranteed right.

He also warned about endangering public safety and security in Iraq.

Barham Saleh further stressed the need for unity among Iraqis and to prioritize the supreme interests of the country as well as to meet the demands of the people and said: The country is going through a critical phase that requires unity and the promotion of the language of dialogue in order to meet the demands of the Iraqi people.

He added: Respect for the will of the people, the constitution and the peaceful process in the country is a national duty. Demonstration of election results is a constitutional right, and how to deal with it must be within the framework of the law and peaceful, and the security of the country must not be endangered.

The Iraqi president also stressed the need to respect the government and its institutions and to maintain a peaceful democratic process in the country.

The remarks came after a large number of Iraqis took to the streets of Baghdad on Sunday, hours after the official announcement of the election results, to protest the results announced by the election commission.
