Al-Kadhimi: The region has more in common than differences

At the opening of the “Regional Support for Iraq” summit and as the host of the summit, Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi stressed that commonalities in the region are more than differences, and that positive approaches can improve security in the region and the world.

Al-Kadhimi noted that early parliamentary elections will chart the future course of Iraq and that there will never be a return to the past and futile wars with neighbors.

“We are opposed to Iraq becoming an arena for international conflict,” he said.

The Iraqi Prime Minister also stressed that we are against Iraq becoming a base for aggression against its neighbors.

Al-Kadhimi said Iraq expects the support of all countries and neighbors for reconstruction.

The regional support meeting for Iraq began a few minutes ago in Baghdad with delegations from Iraq’s neighbors and some countries in the region and the world, except Syria.

The Islamic Republic of Iran is one of the most important participants in this summit and the Iranian delegation is chaired by Dr. Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran.

The summit is also attended by French President Emmanuel Macron, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim, King Abdullah II of Jordan, the ruler of Dubai, and the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia and Turkey.

Iraq has announced that the summit is aimed at reducing tensions in the region, developing economic relations and resolving disputes between Iraq’s neighbors.
