79 years in prison, the result of the activity of two Saudi women in social networks

Pak Sahafat – A human rights organization reported: The Saudi Court of Appeal sentenced a woman in this country to 45 years in prison on the charge of “disrupting public order through publishing posts on social networks”, while another activist was also sentenced to 45 years in prison. Activity on Twitter was sentenced to 34 years in prison.

According to the news sources of the region, a special appeals court for terrorist crimes in Riyadh, Noura Bint Saeed Al-Qahtani, a Saudi woman, was accused of “attempting to destabilize society and national cohesion and disrupting public order in society from sentenced to prison through cyberspace.

The woman, about whom little information is available, was tried under the Anti-Criminal and Terrorist Financing Act after her arrest in July 2021.

The issuance of this prison sentence comes a few weeks after the prison sentence of “Salmi al-Shahab”, a 34-year-old Saudi Shia dental doctorate student at the University of Leeds in England, who was indicted in the Riyadh Court of Appeal on the alleged charge of “helping” the opposition in an attempt to destabilize Saudi Arabia was condemned by publishing and republishing a series of tweets.

Al-Shahab, who has two daughters, had published tweets in support of the Palestine issue and women’s rights in Saudi Arabia before being arrested by Al Saud, which did not go well with Al Saud.

Salmi al-Shahab is one of the Shiites living in Eastern Arabia, and the sentence issued against her is the longest in the list of women’s rights defenders in Saudi Arabia.

According to the Human Rights Organization (Qest), Salmi al-Shahab’s initial sentence was six years in prison, but the appeals court increased this sentence to 34 years, equal to his age.

The government of Saudi Arabia, especially after the crown prince of this country, Mohammed bin Salman, has taken severe measures against writers and civil activists and has killed dozens of clerics, princes, writers, poets and civil and religious activists under the pretext of acting against the security of this country.

For more than a year and a half, Biden had refused to communicate with Mohammed bin Salman, the crown prince, on the subject of Khashoggi’s murder and its consequences, but following the outbreak of war in Ukraine and the unprecedented increase in oil prices, Biden changed his strategy and prioritized interests.
