30 years of imprisonment against the Saudi prince for criticizing Mohammed bin Salman

Pak Sahafat – The news media reported that a Saudi prince was sentenced to 30 years in prison for criticizing the policies of Mohammed bin Salman.

According to Pak Sahafat News Agency, the Saudi authorities have issued a prison sentence for a young Saudi prince for criticizing Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

According to the Associated Press report, in August 2022, the Saudi authorities have issued a 30-year prison sentence against Prince Abdullah bin Faisal Al Saud. He is a master’s student at Northeastern University in Boston.

This news agency wrote a report titled “Saudis are being targeted in the United States while Saudi Arabia is cracking down on the opposition.”

According to the report, Prince Abdullah bin Faisal Al Saud’s friends say he rarely mentions that he is a member of the Saudi royal family, preferring to focus on his studies, career plans and his love of soccer.

After the imprisonment of one of the Saudi princes, Prince Abdullah bin Faisal shared this issue through calls to his relatives, and he was arrested on his way back to Saudi Arabia because of these calls.

Prince Abdullah, 31, belongs to the Saudi royal family, and since Mohammed bin Salman became the crown prince, many Saudi princes have been arrested as critics and rivals.

A Saudi court alleges that Prince Abdullah used his cell phone in Boston to talk to his mother and other relatives about his cousin, who is in prison, as well as a public phone in Boston for a lawyer on the case.

Over the past five years, the surveillance, intimidation and harassment of Saudis by the Al Saud government abroad, especially America, has intensified.

The human rights organization “Freedom House” announced that the Saudi authorities have targeted critics in 14 countries, especially the United States of America, with the aim of intimidating the Saudis or forcing them to return to Saudi Arabia.

On the other hand, many social users started a campaign in Saudi Arabia to reveal the fate of “Mohammed Al Qahtani”, a human rights activist detained in Saudi prisons.

Turki al-Shalhoub, a human rights activist and author, wrote on his Twitter page: The disappearance of Muhammad al-Qahtani is a new crime that was added to the previous crimes of the Al Saud regime against political prisoners.

“Fahd Al-Ghafili”, a Saudi activist and researcher, also announced: Mohammed Al-Qahtani has been in detention for 10 years, and his wife and family have not been aware of him for 9 days. They don’t know anything about him. What Al Saud is doing is a legal and humanitarian crime, and every prisoner has the right to be in contact with his family and relatives.

During the past weeks, the Saudi judiciary issued a long prison sentence for a number of Saudi missionaries and increased the sentence of Sheikh “Nasser al-Omar” from 10 years to 30 years in prison. Also, Sheikh “Abdul Rahman Al-Mahmoud” was sentenced to 25 years, Sheikh “Essam Al-Owaid” to 27 years and Sheikh Ibrahim Al-Dawish to 15 years.

In the meantime, Saudi female activist “Salmi Shahab” received one of the most controversial sentences from the Saudi judicial system, and was sentenced to 34 years in prison for publishing a few tweets last month. Also, the Saudi authorities issued a 45-year prison sentence against another Saudi activist Noura Al-Qahtani.

The Saudi government is known for cracking down on dissent and critics, and has a long history of attempting to hack technology platforms and use advanced electronic surveillance technology to spy on the opposition. Human rights organizations have also long documented Saudi Arabia’s flagrant violation of vague provisions in the Anti-Terrorism Act and the Anti-Cybercrime Act to silence its opponents.
