There have been cases of the mask being removed at the Tokyo Olympic medal ceremony, which is “against the law.”
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) said Sunday that the use of masks is mandatory after several swimmers took off their masks at the Tokyo Olympics’s medal ceremony and embraced their competitors, according to Reuters.
Mark Adams, spokesman for the International Olympic Committee, commented on the incident by American, Canadian and Australian swimmers, said: “Wearing a mask is not an interesting thing, it is mandatory to wear it. No, the rules have not changed and we urge everyone to follow them. This is important for sports, all involved and our Japanese friends, and sends a strong message. We realize that there is a lot of excitement and, of course, when you win a medal, we understand how the athletes feel.”
Meanwhile, the Tokyo Olympics on Sunday announced the identification of 10 new cases of Covid-19 among those related to the competition, bringing the total number of cases to 132 in the last 25 days. The Olympics are mostly held without spectators.
