Taliban: Let the international community help us fight Corona

A Taliban spokesman called on the international community to help the group fight the corona, claiming that all of Afghanistan’s rural areas are under its control.

Sohail Shahin, a spokesman and member of the Taliban negotiating team, said the group controlled all of Afghanistan’s rural areas and stressed the need to provide medical assistance to the group.

“Shahin told Sputnik: We call on countries around the world and non-governmental organizations to help us fight the corona epidemic.

He added that according to the Taliban Health Commission, there is a strong need for corona vaccines and oxygen generators, but the group has not yet received any assistance.

A member of the Taliban negotiating team continued: They said “We are doing our best to raise awareness among the people, but we do not have the medicines and vaccines to deal with this growing epidemic.”

Shaheen had previously called on the United Nations and other international organizations to provide financial support to the Taliban in order to provide facilities to the people in those areas, claiming that the Taliban controlled 85 percent of Afghanistan.

The Afghan delegation and the Taliban agreed in a joint statement last week to take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of corona vaccination personnel and to prevent the transport of oxygen and other essential medical items to treat patients with corona virus.

According to the latest Langwar Journal report on the security situation in Afghanistan, 223 cities in the country are under Taliban control and about 54% of the Afghan population is in areas under the control of this group.
