A cyberattack has shut down more than 800 stores in Sweden

A cyberattack on a chain store in Sweden shut down more than 800 branches.

More than 800 branches of the Cope chain in Sweden were forced to close after a cyberattack.

According to the website of “Rasha Today” network, this cyberattack has paralyzed the operation of these stores since Friday and it seems that these disruptions will continue.

Some Swedish media have reported that the malfunction of these chain stores is related to the cyber extortion on Friday from the information technology company “Cassia” in Miami, USA.

The American company announced after the cyberattack that it had to shut down all its servers in order to protect its 36,000 customers in different parts of the world.

Huntress Labs said the hack targeted Florida-based technology company Kaseya and was later released through networks that use the company’s software. Hunters Labs also claimed that the Russian-linked ransomware group REvil was responsible for the attack.

Cassia Technology also said few companies were affected, but Hunters Labs said about 200 companies had been affected so far and that number was growing.

The United States has pointed the finger at Russia in recent months, following heavy cyberattacks, but Moscow has repeatedly denied the allegations.

On Thursday, several security agencies, including the National Security Agency, the Department of Homeland Security and the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), along with the British National Cyber Security Center, claimed that Russian military spies have hacked into Democratic Party emails trying to interfere in the 2016 presidential election.

The Russian embassy in Washington said in a statement on Friday that it hoped Americans would stop making baseless allegations and instead focus on working with Russia to fight cybercrime.
