Pakistani foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi: Pakistan is not responsible for Afghanistan’s internal failures
Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has said that the country is not responsible for the failures of the Afghan government and that it is against Pakistan’s wishes to establish peace and stability in the country.

In an interview with TOLOnews, Qureshi stressed that peace and stability in Afghanistan are not only in the country’s interest; It is also in the interest of Pakistan and the countries of the region.

He stressed that Pakistan wants to help in the Afghan peace process and the government must understand the sincerity and intentions of Pakistan.

“Let me put it this way, when things are not going well, you are looking for a victim of the charges, and your favorite victim is Pakistan,” he added. When there is failure inside, you accuse Pakistan of it. Pakistan is not responsible for internal failure. Pakistan is not responsible for the ongoing wars in Afghanistan. “Pakistan is not responsible.”

Qureshi also said that there is no military solution to the war in Afghanistan and now not only the country, but also the world has realized the fact that the current war must be resolved politically.

He added that both the Afghan government and the Taliban must have the flexibility to bring peace and stability to the country, and that there will be no peace as long as both sides insist on their personal will.

Qureshi added: “It is up to the Afghan people to decide, how does Afghanistan want a political structure? This is your decision. This is the decision of the Afghan people. “What we are saying is that you are all Afghans, peace comes to Afghanistan only when you sit down and make peace.”

“Pakistan believes in peace and stability through elections and popular vote, and does not want the future government to be deprived of military power and has never supported the use of force in Kabul.”

According to Shah Mahmood Qureshi, the government and the Taliban should work to break the deadlock in the peace process and speed it up; Because as the violence continues, the situation will become more fragile and violence and dialogue will not be possible at the same time.

Qureshi warned that Afghanistan could return to the civil war of the 1990s unless the current stalemate in the talks is broken and the withdrawal of foreign troops is completed.

“This is not good for Afghanistan, it is not good for Pakistan and it is not good for the region,” he added. Can Afghanistan withstand another civil war? Can you stand a decade of chaos? You can not and should not do. I feel for the people of Afghanistan. “They have suffered enough.”

During the talks, the Pakistani foreign minister repeatedly denied the presence of the Taliban in his country, saying that the Taliban were not in Pakistan; Rather, they live in Afghanistan. Shah Mahmood Qureshi described Pakistan-Taliban relations only to the extent that they exist to accelerate the peace process.

“I’m not saying they have no relationship here; “But the majority of the leadership, I can say this with complete confidence, do not live in Pakistan.”

Another focus of the conversation was the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan. The Pakistani foreign minister was asked if the United States had failed in Afghanistan. In response to this question, Shah Mahmoud Qureshi said that the United States came to Afghanistan with only one goal, which was to break the backs of terrorist organizations, and they themselves claim that they have achieved this goal.

Qureshi said the United States could not stay in Afghanistan forever and had to leave. According to him, the previous and current US administrations believe that it is time to leave Afghanistan and they should leave.

The Pakistani foreign minister called the Durand Line an international border and said the two sides should recognize it.

“Well, in my mind, whether they accept it for domestic political reasons or not, this border that exists is, in my view, an international border,” he added.

The Pakistani foreign minister’s remarks come as the country has been hailed by the Afghan government as a key supporter of the Taliban and the group’s stronghold. The Afghan government has repeatedly said that the country has openly given refuge to the Taliban in order to interfere in Afghanistan’s internal affairs.
