Police in the capital of Kenya, as well as the Washington embassy in the African country, said a senior embassy staffer hanged him and committed suicide.
The body of a senior US embassy staffer in Kenya, who has not yet been identified, was found in a hotel in the Nairobi capital.
According to the Anatolian News Agency, Kenyan police said that his hanged body was found in the hotel room of a senior US embassy staffer in Nairobi, and a note was found with him indicating that he may have committed suicide.
Kenyan police also said that officials at the agency had launched an investigation into the authenticity of the memo and were investigating whether the real cause of death of the US embassy employee was suicide.
Kenyan officials, as well as the Washington embassy in Nairobi, have not yet released the name or identity of the embassy staffer, but some Kenyan media outlets have said the man was 58 years old.
A spokesman for the Washington embassy in Nairobi said without identifying the senior embassy official: “We confirm the death of a US embassy staffer. The US Embassy in Nairobi extends its deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased.”
