The US Atomic Energy Authority has suspended sales of some nuclear materials to China.
According to Pak Sahafat International Group, quoted by Reuters, Sales of radioactive materials, including hydrogen isotopes, to China’s largest state-owned nuclear company have been halted, according to the US Atomic Energy Authority.
Accordingly, the government sent radioactive materials and hydrogen isotopes used in the reactors of China’s largest state-owned nuclear company (CGN) (Cijian, which was blacklisted in August 2019 for trying to obtain advanced technology and materials from the United States).
According to the Atomic Regulatory Commission in a September 27 decree, the White House recognized that the moratorium was necessary to advance US national security interests as well as to strengthen US common defense and security under the 1954 Atomic Energy Act, and included an export suspension. Radioactive and deuterium materials (deuterium is a non-radioactive isotope of the element hydrogen used in heavy water fission reactors at nuclear power plants) are transferred to CJSC, subsidiaries or affiliates.
The new US law will continue the previous Trump administration’s policies in 2018 to send peaceful nuclear technology to China to prevent its use for military or other illicit purposes, and will tighten controls.
Recently, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg, who is trying to push China into the nuclear arms talks by putting pressure on China, said in a statement without mentioning the names of the world’s nuclear arsenal holders, such as the United States: In the field of arms control, Beijing must act quite responsibly.
In this regard, he added: In the event of a reduction in the number of nuclear weapons as well as an increase in transparency by China, the country will benefit.
Stoltenberg stating that China will continue to expand its atomic arsenal without any restrictions, said: The country is building a large number of missile silos that will significantly increase its nuclear capability, and on the other hand, all this will happen without any restrictions and transparency.
