Turkish and US military chiefs discuss security issues

Tehran – Pak Sahafat – Turkish Army Chief of Staff Yasar Guler spoke with US counterpart Mark Milli about security issues.

The US General Staff said in a statement yesterday (Sunday) that the talks between Guler and Milli took place on the sidelines of a meeting of NATO Chiefs of Staff in Athens, Greece.

The statement said Guler and Milli discussed US withdrawal from Afghanistan, regional security, counterterrorism operations, the refugee crisis and other issues.

The statement added that the meeting emphasized that the United States and Turkey, as key members of NATO, have strong and stable military ties.

Turkey-US relations over the past two years have focused on issues such as US full support for the Kurds, which Turkey calls terrorist groups, as well as sharp differences over Turkey’s arms purchases from Russia, especially the S-400 air defense system with ups and downs.
