Iran and China; the focus of Blinken’s consultation with the new British Foreign Secretary

The State Department announced that Secretary of State Joe Biden had a telephone conversation with new British Foreign Secretary Liz Terrace about the “common priorities” of the two countriesÛ”

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken consulted with his British counterpart on Washington-London relations after the British Prime Minister’s decision to change his foreign minister.

State Department spokeswoman Ned Price said in a statement that Secretary of State Anthony Blinketton had telephoned his Britain counterpart.

According to the statement, Blinken initially congratulated “Liz Terrace” on taking office as British Foreign Secretary.

During the meeting, the Secretary of State emphasized the importance of Washington-London relations in “supporting democracy, the rule of law and open societies on the world stage.”

Secretary of State Joe Biden’s allegation of US and British support for democracy comes amid their support for authoritarian governments in the West Asian region, and in particular intelligence and weapons assistance to the Saudi-Emirati aggression coalition in Yemen in recent years, with widespread protests by human rights activists.

According to State Department spokeswoman Anthony Blinken and Liz Terrace also discussed Iran, China and Afghanistan during the phone call.

According to the statement, the US and British foreign ministers “also discussed common foreign policy priorities, including Afghanistan, the People’s Republic of China, Iran, and multilateral engagement in dealing with the climate crisis.”

Joe Biden’s Foreign Minister’s consultation with his British counterpart came as German Foreign Minister Haiku Moss spoke by telephone with Liz Terrace.

According to the German Foreign Ministry, Haiku Moss and the British Foreign Secretary spoke about “the need for an immediate resumption of talks with Iran on Borjam.”

It was on Wednesday last week (September 24) that British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced Liz Terrace as the new Foreign Secretary to replace Dominic Robb.

Earlier, Dominique Robb was reshuffled as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice as part of a cabinet reshuffle.

Although the reason for the changes in the Britain cabinet has been announced to be more coordination in the fight against the Corona virus, it seems that the reason for Rob’s dismissal is the sharp criticism against him for carrying out the British withdrawal operation from Afghanistan.
