The United Nations is resuming humanitarian air services in Afghanistan

The United Nations says it is resuming humanitarian air services in Afghanistan so that 160 organizations can continue to operate in the country.

A UN spokesman said UNHCR, which is operated by the World Food Program, was resuming flights in Afghanistan.

Stefan Dujarric added that air passenger services now connect Islamabad to Mazar-e-Sharif and Kandahar, and that there have been three flights to Mazar-e-Sharif since 29 August.

According to him, the World Food Program is making every effort to increase operations and increase the number of flights in Afghanistan as soon as possible.

The UN Resident Coordinator for Afghanistan in Afghanistan, Ramiz Alak Barov, warned on Wednesday that food supplies would be depleted in Afghanistan by the end of September.

He added: About one-third of Afghanistan’s 38 million people are in a state of emergency or food insecurity.

He explained that the UN World Food Program has distributed food to tens of thousands of people in recent weeks, but only 39 percent of the $ 1.3 billion in aid needed has been provided.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said in a statement on Tuesday that today almost half of Afghanistan’s population – 18 million – is in need of humanitarian assistance.

The UN Secretary-General added that more than ever, Afghan children, men and women need the support and solidarity of the international community.

Guterres called on all UN member states to act promptly, flexibly and comprehensively in the “darkest hours of the Afghan people’s need.”

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has also called on all countries in the world not to leave Afghan children alone in the current situation in Afghanistan and the need for more assistance.

According to UNICEF, more than 4 million children, including 2.2 million girls, dropped out of school and about 300,000 were forced to flee their homes.
