Khalilzad recently declined to answer in a televised interview when asked by a reporter whether the United States would intervene if Kabul fell to the Taliban, and said: “These are abstract questions,”
Morchell added that these questions are not abstract, and criticized the US peace deal with the Taliban and marginalized the government in the negotiation process: “You are responsible for the current situation in Afghanistan.”
Earlier, the Afghan president had criticized the Taliban for granting large concessions in US talks with the group, saying that US pressure had forced the release of more than 5,000 Taliban prisoners.
